The Story of the Faithful Steward | Invest Your Convictions | Five Profound Words
INVEST YOUR CONVICTIONS
“Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful”
(1 Corinthians 4:2 NKJV)
The statement is sometimes made, “Let your conscience be your guide”. The comment is spoken to encourage a high level of behavior that will not result in feelings of guilt.
An appeal to an even higher value when investing, are the words “Let your convictions be your guide”. The encouragement is to have one's financial decisions made in a manner consistent with religious faith.
“Socially responsible investing” has been encouraged for many years and has seen remarkable growth. “Faith based investing” or “Faithful Steward Investing” is a more recent emphasis. It is possible to invest in mutual funds designed to support or avoid companies whose business involvements are consistent with the religious convictions of the investor. It is also possible to use managed accounts investing in individual stocks that have been screened for compatibility with the investor’s faith.
HOW HAS THIS BECOME POSSIBLE?
Sources for faith based investing are various religious denominations who began investing retirement funds for ministers of their churches. Investment services have been expanded to include other church staff and even members of the denominations churches.
Additional sources exist because financial professionals have developed resources, products and financial strategies to serve the religious community. Their faith commitment is to use their financial professionalism to enable persons of religious faith to have the means to invest.
